Hope equals life

We offer a peer support program for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one by suicide.

The FREE 10-week program is designed to help participants make sense of and piece together their disrupted lives. It’s facilitated by trained volunteers who have themselves experienced loss by suicide.

This program is an opportunity to connect with other survivors and talk openly about suicide, with people who really understand what you are going through.

The program runs twice a year, spring and fall. Meetings are held once a week for 2 hours (7 pm – 9 pm) and currently take place online via Zoom. Registration is required to participate.

Meetings include informal conversations and sharing of experiences. Each week a different topic is discussed, such as: unresolved mourning issues, family dynamics, dealing with anger and guilt, and more.

Connecting with people who have been through a similar loss was something that I was looking for. Just hearing the voices of others that had lost a loved one by suicide, comforted me in some strange way. I was full of anxiety and hesitation attending my first SOS meeting. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a hug. I instantly felt understood and knew that I was in the right place. As much as my dear family and friends showered me in love and support, I felt like I needed to talk to others, who were survivors of suicide loss. I found there were so many more emotions and found it difficult to navigate the grief, sadness, anger, and feelings of guilt and even betrayal.

The support program offered me a safe place to share thoughts and feelings, which I had not been able to share with anyone else. It gave me the opportunity to connect with people that were also struggling.
